Super Alpha are adventure sandals that are perfect for anyone who wants all the benefits of a zero-drop barefoot sandal, but isn’t sure about being on the ground with no protection for their feet. With a more protective and thicker sole, the Super Alpha give you the confidence you need to start your minimalist journey. With a firm stable platform, your feet will be free to relax so you can focus on the adventure!

Super Lacing System

The Super Lacing system is an all-leather version of our venerable 4th Generation Shamma Lacing System. This system is packed with features that give you everything you need to get the right fit. Our original Shamma buckle allows for fine-tuning of the toe strap and insole strap. The leather insole keeps the heel strap in an optimal position. Velcro® on the insole and heel straps allow for quick and secure adjustments. The Super Lacing System gives you comfort, durability and style that only leather can provide.

Recraftable

Just because you wore a hole in your sandals, it doesn’t mean you have to throw them away! Our modular approach to sandal-making means that worn out parts can be replaced with a pair of pliers at home. Why throw away what you can repair? Visit our parts page to learn more!

All of our sandals are made right here in Santa Cruz, CA by our small team, using primarily US sourced materials along with high quality components from Italy, Germany, and other international partners. Step-by-Step Instructions:

Loosen All Zones: Ensure the toe, insole, and heel straps are completely loose.
Center Your Foot: Place your foot with equal room front and back.
Set Buckle Position: Adjust the buckle front-to-back to find the sweet spot.
Tighten Insole Strap: Tighten this first to set the buckle's left/right position. Keep it parallel to the big toe bone.
Clear the Slack: Pull any extra slack from the toe strap zone through the outside ankle slot towards the heel.
Finalize: Tighten the heel strap to your desired comfort level.

FAQ

Can these get wet?

While a bit of water or rain every once in a while won't hurt your sandals, it is best to generally keep them dry to preserve the softness and look of the leather. Leather also gets slippery when wet.

Which soles should I pick?

Opt for the Alpha if you are transitioning to barefoot footwear slowly or want some extra protection. If you are an experienced wearer and want almost nothing between you and the ground, go with the Warrior. And wear the Ibex if you need a flexible sole that can handle especially rugged terrain or need the maximum amount of protection.

Can these be resoled?

Yes, they can! These require an in-workshop resole, so if and when you need it, you can mail them to us and we can install your new soles.

How should I care for my Supers?

Your Supers are hardy, but for best results, generally keep them dry, and wipe mud off of the leather with a damp cloth when needed. For the highest standard of care, use a leather cleaner and a conditioner periodically.

Will the toe strap dig in between my toes?

Probably not! The special thing about Shammas is that the strap between your toes isn't doing all of the work to keep your feet in place. If you are sensitive in this area, we recommend giving the toe strap a couple days to soften up and in most cases, it will be so comfortable, you'll forget it exists!

Can I return these if they don't work for me?

Yes! We have a 30-Day trial period so that you can test out your sandals inside or outside and still return them in new or gently worn condition. As our sandals break-in, they soften up and begin to hug your feet for a custom fit, so feel free to take your time and ask us any questions along the way.

What is your warranty policy?

We will always repair or replace any sandal that is broken or defective due to a manufacturing defect. For normal wear and tear, you can purchase replacement parts on our Shamma Recrafted page so that the adventure never ends.

Can you tell me about your manufacturing process?

We are proud to be manufacturing each of our sandals in the USA, here at our workshop in Santa Cruz, California! We source our soling material from the United States and Italy, our leather from the USA and Germany, and our ultrasuede from Japan. We are constantly looking for opportunities to bring manufacturing closer to home and work with partners we trust.

the unoriginal-and-not-even-funny one where you put a pin upright on a chair for your (unobservant) teacher to sit on. yeah that one. but for your feet.

shammas saved me from stepping on not one but 3 pushpins lying on the floor, which got firmly lodged into the sole of my foot right below the toe plug. didn’t feel a thing. unlike the time the same fate befell me when I was running barefoot in a field.

having an enamel pin lodged firmly into the ball of your foot is what I hope is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

after the breaking-in period inherent to any leather shoe, these truly feel like an extension of your bare foot. these bad boys seamlessly mold to the shape of your foot in a way only rivaled by these messi cleats I randomly got on clearance for $10 at sports basement like 5 years ago.

did a 6mi trail run in them a couple weeks ago, no blisters/discomfort whatsoever. on the other hand (foot?), did a 6 mi hike in chacos and that was straight agony starting on mile 3 or 4. blisters galore.

do what you want with that info.

I'd give it a 4.5. Small detail of the velco not adjusting to the same length on the heel between both feet. (My feet may be to blame, but I'm doubtful about an inche difference) Toe strap plug is a little thick and distracting.

Otherwise, great material and great ground feel after about a week of wear. Straps are comfortable. I order all my shoes in euro size and these fit true to size according to that metric.
